Lena Loka, age 104, died Monday, November 4, 2013 at Pine Crest Nursing Home. She was born May 15, 1909 to the late Martin & Mary (Mixes) Rudolph. On October 1, 1955 she and John Loka were united in marriage in Merrill. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Lena worked at Associated Co-Op as a clerk. She was a very hard worker. Lena loved an array of flowers and truly enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She was an excellent baker and loved to share the food she made with others. Lena liked visiting with whoever might stop by but most especially enjoyed being around children. She took great pride in maintaining her home and was very proud her yard, flower and vegetable gardens. Lena was the last of the 6th generation of the Dagis family and 5 generations remain.
Survivors include three nieces, Lorraine Simon, Gleason, WI, Cara (Steve) Carter, Shelby Dagis, IL and Linda (Rich) Phillip, NC; three great nieces, Sherry Simon, Green Bay, Jan (Marty) Krebs, Junction City, and Nichole Astre; three great nephews, Paul (Patty) Simon, Gleason, Chris (Bridget) Peters and Scott Peters; two great-great nieces, Kayla and Jessica Moses; and one great-great nephew, Eric Bowen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, four brothers, John Dagis, Adolf Dagis, Albert Dagis and Willy Dagis and two nephews, Randy Dagis and Delmar Dagis.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at Waid Funeral Home. Pastor Greg Laska will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Merrill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Lena’s honor. The family would like to thank the administration and staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home for their care and love that was shared with Lena. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
