David Gerald Meier

David Gerald Meier, born May 17, 1927, passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Jane; his parents, Henry & Alma; his brothers, Robert, John, William, Ralph & Leroy; and his sister Elinore.
He is survived by his children: Cynthia Ermis (Fiance Clayton Mattox), Patricia & Ronald Drummond, Gerald & Bobbie Meier, and Donna & David Milligan; and grandchildren: Stacie & Stephanie Ermis, Matthew, Michael, & Amanda Drummond, Larissa & Kindra Meier, and Sean & Kevin Milligan. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn & William Popp; his brother, Kenneth & Faye Meier, his sisters-in-law, Willa Meier, Nancy Meier, & Joan Meier, a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, & great nephews; and his dear friends, Ziggy & Maria Gawryziak, and Don & Pat Jewell.
David was confirmed and graduated from St. John’s Lutheran School, Merrill, and a graduate of Merrill High School. He enlisted, and served proudly in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served primarily with the Naval Air Corps. Upon completion of military service, David attended MSOE.
David worked for General Motors at their A/C Delco facility in Oak Creek, WI. He worked proudly on the team that designed the guidance systems for the Apollo moon missions, and travelled to other GM facilities across the country as a troubleshooter. He retired after 35 years of faithful service.
David was a 57-year member at Grace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. During this time he served as an Elder, and on many other congregational boards.
He was passionate about his children & grandchildren, and kept a keen interest in their lives. He loved spending time outdoors at his place up north, and visiting with the gang back in Merrill.
His family would like to thank the staff at Tudor Oaks Retirement Community in Muskego, WI for all their loving care. You made a positive difference in his waning years.

A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Meyer’s Restaurant & Bar, 4260 S. 76th St., Greenfield, WI from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. A family style meal will be served at 1 p.m. We would be honored by your presence.
