Bluejay girls negotiate the Rapids

The Bluejay girls tennis team put it together in both singles and doubles in Wis. Rapids last Tuesday, and the result was a 5-2 triumph for Merrill’s first Valley win of the season. The Jays are 1-3 in conference and 7-7 overall.
“We were able today to get both singles and doubles on the right track and playing smart tennis,” MHS coach Janet Thompson said. “Chloe (Krahn), Megan (Smith) and Sarah (Lentz) all had strong performances on the courts. It’s been a goal of the singles players to play offensively and move opponents around. We had great success with that today and were able to take control of matches.”
Krahn (6-0, 6-2), Smith (6-3, 6-2) and Lentz (6-2, 6-2) all captured solid wins. Annie DeBroux (6-4, 6-2) lost in the #1 position.
Doubles wins came from Katie Purmal/Morgan Thompson (7-5, 6-0) and Hanna Cohrs/Rachel Bayer (6-1, 6-3). Ashley Ollhoff/Morgan Wilde (6-4, 6-2) were toppled in the #1 slot.
“At #2 doubles, Morgan and Katie got down in the first set 5-1, but came storming back and won the next 12 games in a row,” Thompson said. “Rachel and Hanna continue to gain confidence in their teamwork and picked up their first conference win.”
