Dwayne E. Spencer, age 55, died unexpectedly at his home Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013. He was born Dec. 22, 1957 in East Chicago to the late Jesse & Geneva (Gray) Spencer. He and Debbie Kanitz were united in marriage July 28, 1979.
Dwayne graduated from Whiting High School in 1975. He worked as an Ironworker in US Reduction Mills in East Chicago for 30 years. He was a member of the Whiting Moose Lodge and the AMVETS. Dwayne loved spending time with his grandkids and enjoyed watching old movies. He loved his cat, Sammy, and his tropical fish.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Debbie Spencer; daughter, Melissa (Dan Catlin) Butler; son, Michael (Nicole Pikus) Spencer; nephew, Joey Spencer (Ge), all of Whiting, IN; four grandkids, Tyler Butler, Jacob Butler, Alyssa Catlin and Jaxon Catlin; three brothers; one sister; numerous nieces and nephews; and many family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held in his hometown of Whiting, IN. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Any donations for the family may be sent to Owens Funeral Home, 816 119th Street, Whiting, IN 46394.
