Lavila A. Schmidt

Lavila A. Schmidt, 87, formerly of Farmingdale Rd., in the Town of Corning, was called by our Lord for her eternal reward with Him on Monday, August 5, 2013, with the Bell Tower Residence staff, Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, and her family by her side to start her heavenly journey.
Lavila was born April 11, 1926, in the Town of Corning, daughter of the late John and Anna (Koehler) Krause. On October 13, 1945, she married her loving husband Elroy Schmidt. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2011. Together, they operated the family farm. Lavila ran her own housekeeping business in her earlier years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin, and was the leader of the “Jumping Jacks 4H Club” for 19 years. She greatly enjoyed gardening in her flower beds and vegetable garden. She was well known for being an excellent cook and baker, able to make meals out of anything. She would bake up the best peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies and many, many other “goodies” that she always shared with others. She never let anyone leave her house without being stuffed full. She also enjoyed listening to polka music and dancing. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and doing many day trips with the Kottke’s and other family members. Lavila loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her four children, daughter, Karen (Darrell) Krohn, their children Kim (John) Rick and Chad (Elise) Krohn; son, John Schmidt and Kris Olson, their children John (Diana) Schmidt and Andria Schmidt; daughter, Cindy (Jerry) Pike, their daughter Stacy (Shawn) Hagenbucher; and son, Richard ‘Ric’ Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Zachary Rick, Kylie and Kolton Krohn, Erin and Andrew Schmidt, Caiden Orosco, and Peyton and Lucas Hagenbucher; one sister, Phyllis (LaVern) Kottke; two brothers Edgar (Emogene) Krause and Gilbert Krause; one sister-in-law, Lavine Krause; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Lavila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy; sister, Sylvia Sturm; brother, Lorenz Krause; and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Krause.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin. Rev. Jeffrey Schmidt will officiate. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:30am Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin, or Northland Lutheran High School.
