?Yankee Doodle Dandy? with the Merrill City Band

Hoping to finally start the 2013 concert season after being rained out last week, the Merrill City Band will be in concert at the Normal Park Gazebo on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. With the 4th of July upon us, the group will be celebrating America through music. Well-known patriotic favorites will be included, as well as a George M. Cohan medley, a tribute to the Armed Forces, a little Dixieland, and more.
The band will make the journey to Tomahawk on Thursday, July 4, for the annual Pow Wow Days Parade, beginning at 1 pm.
“Three Ring Circus,” rescheduled from June 26, will be presented next Wednesday, July 10. The event will include pre-concert entertainment and concessions will be available. The Lions Club is selling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, potato chips, soda, and water beginning at 5:30 p.m. HAVEN will be selling lemonade and tasty popcorn. Ringmaster Ron Behm, juggler John Kilgust, and the Wurlitzer Band Organ of Dick Lokemoen will be featured throughout the night. The kids can enjoy face painting, balloons, a stuffed animal parade (bring your favorite one), and a “tightrope contest.” The band encourages you to get in the spirit of things and join them in dressing up in circus attire for the evening. You never know when a prize might be handed out to someone decked out in circus attire.
Some great old-fashioned circus marches, along with other selections including “Lassus Trombone,” “Baby Elephant Walk,” and the clarinet feature “The Pie In The Face” polka will put you in a festive circus mood.
Each concert will have a 50/50 raffle and gift certificates from local businesses will be given away. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the sounds of the city band. And why wait til 7:30? Get there early, bring a picnic supper (or buy one from local organizations at the park when available), and treat yourself to a little night music.
