Bertha A. Malinowski, age 97, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Bertha was born December 1, 1915, in Joliet, IL, daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Ditton) Scheidt. She married Edward J. Malinowski, Sr. on November 21, 1940, in St. Louis, MO during his military service. He preceded her in death in 1976. Bertha worked as a clerk in a Woolworth store in Illinois. Upon moving to Merrill, she worked as a store manager at Paramount Studios and as a volunteer coordinator at Lincoln Hills School. She then worked at Good Samaritan Health Center as a receptionist. Bertha enjoyed all of her jobs working with people. She also enjoyed knitting, watching tennis and golf on television, following Tiger Woods’ career, and organizing parties and family gatherings.
Survivors include one daughter, Sara (Leonard) Majetic, of Wausau; three sons, Edward (Ellen) Malinowski, Jr., of Wausau, Robert Malinowski, of Markel, TX, and David (Roberta) Malinowski, of Merrill; one daughter-in-law, Mary Malinowski, of Merrill; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Norma Scheidt and Joyce Scheidt, both of Joliet, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Malinowski, Sr.; her parents, Joseph and Bertha Scheidt; her son, Joseph Malinowski; two sisters, Cecilia (Harold ‘Bud’) McDonald and Elanor (John) Handel; and two brothers, Harold Scheidt and Joseph Scheidt.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Bertha’s cremated remains will be interred at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
