Lincoln County is ranked 60th out of 72 counties related to county health rankings and the third highest district in the state reporting food hardship. Due to the data represented, the Health Department was awarded a $10,000 CHANGE grant in November of 2012. This grant funded 6 months of data-collection, planning resource for area coalitions, and an action plan to make a difference in the community. A total of 15 local worksites, schools, community organizations and local government were surveyed for the grant. The Meet and Greet will have displays available in the following areas: 1) CHANGE grant background; 2) local data on nutrition, physical activity, tobacco, chronic disease, community leadership and policy; and 3) what the community can do to become a healthier county.
“The CHANGE grant has given us an opportunity to work with our community leaders in businesses, schools, organizations, local government officials, and healthcare organizations to get a better understand on what current, positive approaches are being made towards health and what areas of improvements can be made in Lincoln County,” states Wendy Hilmershausen, CHANGE Grant Coordinator, Lincoln County Health Department.
Healthy People Lincoln County’s mission is to promote partnerships within the community to improve health through advocacy, prevention and implementation of best practices.
