Harold Plamann, age 91, of Merrill, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Woodland Court Elder Service.
Harold was born October 26, 1921, in the town of Schley, Lincoln County, WI.
Harold was the third of six children born to the late Arthur and Rose (Ahlert) Plamann. Harold was preceded in death by his infant sister, Mildred, and three brothers, Alfred, Ervin and Arthur. He was also preceded in death by his son, Philip, and two daughters, Fern and Delores.
Harold married Viola Tesky on March 29, 1941, and they raised five children: Philip, Delores, Fern, David and Mary Sue. Harold’s early working career included logging and working at Ward Paper. Harold then went into farming until 1947 and often told of hauling stones with horses to build the foundation for the barn he built. From 1947-1952, Harold distributed petroleum products for the Mobil Oil Company. In 1952, he bought his own gas truck and distributed products for Cities Service Oil Company until 1972. While in the petroleum business, Harold continued to run a small farm in the town of Schley, sold snowmobiles and operated a bakery delivery service in Antigo for several years. From 1977 to 1984, both Harold and Viola worked at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
Harold enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their cottage on Long Lake, Harrison Hills. Harold also enjoyed snowmobiling, deer hunting with his sons and brothers, farming and cutting firewood, making maple syrup with Joe, planting trees, traveling with his children, camping with his friends at Shawano County Park and spending time with his grandchildren. Harold was a member of Dutch Corners Lutheran Church, Gleason Lutheran Church, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. Harold always said he lived a full life and had seen it all. He was very proud of his career with Cities Service and enjoyed serving his customers while in the oil business. During his retirement Harold enjoyed making Christmas wreaths.
Harold is survived by his wife, Viola; son, David (Gloria), Kewaunee; daughter, Mary (Greg) Olson, Hot Springs, AR; daughter-in-law, Maxine Plamann, Merrill; nine grandchildren: Adam Plamann, Appleton; Vicky Parsley, LaPorte, IN; Matt Olson, Little Rock, AR; Bethany MacKenzie, Conway, AR; Ranay Nicklaus, Merrill; Brenda Wendt, Merrill; Jeff Rydell, Wausau; Jill Rydell, Merrill and Julie Uriarte, Sandy, UT; 15 great-grandchildren: Hazel, Veronica and Meredith Plamann, Josh, Danny and Brett Nicklaus, Christopher and Amanda Rydell, Kaleigh Schaefer, Cohrtney Bond, Zoey and Merek MacKenzie, Isaac Olson, Elijah and Anthony Uriarte; one brother, Dale (Kathy) Plamann, Baraboo; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Plamann, and Maria Plamann both of Merrill.
Funeral services will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 8 at 10 AM. Visitation will be held at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 4-8 PM and again from 9-10 AM Saturday, June 8 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
