Dr. Wallace C. Wachsmuth

Dr. Wallace C. Wachsmuth, age 90, 4060 Carl St, Wausau died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at North Central Health Care Facility.
Wally was born on January 13, 1923 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin to the late Carl and Helen (Emmerich) Wachsmuth. He graduated from Merrill High School and later attended the University of Wisconsin Madison. He then went on to earn a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, MO in 1950. Wally practiced in Wausau for 47 years, retiring in 1997. All of his patients were very special and he considered them all friends. Wally served his country honorably in the US Army from 1944 to 1946, serving in the European Theater where he won a Bronze Star.
Wally married Lydia Kanapka August 23, 1947 in Gleason, Wisconsin. They have been married for 65 years. Wally has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1950. He served on the board of elders, was a past president of Zion PTA and its Board of Education, he enjoyed being a member of Zion Men’s Early Morning Bible Class. He was a Past President of Wausau Lions Club in 1962 and served as an officer and director for many years. He was also past director of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post 10, VFW Burns Post 388, and a member of the Merrill Silver M Club.
Wally loved hunting, boating, waterskiing, fishing, golfing, traveling, reading, gardening, watching the Green Bay Packers, and time spent at their “Cabin in the Woods.” Wally was a loving, caring, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and “grand great”. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife Lydia; children Michael (Kathy) Wachsmuth of Wausau and Cynthia Wachsmuth and her husband Ed Kijak of Wausau ; grandchildren Brian Wachsmuth, Wendy Agnew, Debra Nowak, Jessica Newman, Matthew Adams, and Brittany Adams; great grandchildren Logan Wachsmuth, Taylor Nowak, Sean Nowak, Rachel Wachsmuth, Felix Agnew, Taylyn Adams, Owen Agnew, Elizabeth Newman, Envii Johnson, and Jasper Agnew; siblings Victor Wachsmuth of Merrill, Leonard (Marilyn) Wachsmuth of Grays Lake, IL, Gerald (Barbara) Wachsmuth of Owen, WI, and Karen (Roger) Schiller of Wisconsin Rapids.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Mildred Weiter and Doris Hobler.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 6th St., Wausau. The Rev. Steven Gjerde will officiate. Visitation will take place from 10:30 am until the time of service at the church on Saturday. A private family burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park at a later date where graveside military honors will be performed by VFW Post 388.
