Lincoln County Sheriff?s reports, 03-13-13 edition

Tomahawk Firefighters and a deputy responded to a vehicle fire Monday afternoon in the Town of Bradley. At 4:26 p.m. a 911 call reported a vehicle on fire on Greenwood Rd. that was close to a home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the 2000 Ford F-150 without any further property damage; they were on the scene for less than half an hour.

A 23 year old Merrill man was taken into custody after a traffic stop Thursday in the City of Merrill. A deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by Treg R. Leder on Scott Street near 2nd Street just after 2 p.m. A check showed Leder’s driver’s license was revoked and he did not have a court ordered ignition interlock device installed. Leder was also wanted by the Marathon County Sheriff for failing to appear on a charge of operating after revocation. Leder was cited for operating after revocation as a repeat offender and for failing to have an ignition interlock device. He was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was able to post bond on his warrant and be released.

Tomahawk Firefighters responded late Friday night for a reported chimney fire in the Town of Wilson. At 10:35 p.m. a 911 call reported a possible fire in the 8000 block of Somo Dam Drive. When firefighters arrived they found no fire but were delayed in leaving due to the slippery driveway at the home.

A 20 year old Tomahawk man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after a deputy responded to a vehicle in the ditch in the Town of Wilson. Just before 5 a.m. the Highway Department reported a vehicle off the road on US Hwy 8 at County Rd CC. When a deputy arrived he found Ryan M. Clements sleeping behind the wheel. The deputy noted the odor of intoxicants and placed Clements through field sobriety tests and took him into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was later released to a responsible party.

A 33 year old Merrill woman was arrested Sunday morning on a drug charge. Deputies went to a home on Tesch Rd. in the Town of Harding after receiving a request to remove an unwanted guest. Deputies had information that Amanda M. Walters had drugs on her and she consented to a search of her purse which turned up marijuana. Deputies also recovered other items which will be sent to the state crime lab for testing. Walters was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where she was booked on a misdemeanor possession charge, she was released after posting a cash bond.

Residents are being advised to use extreme caution as temperatures continue to warm. On Sunday at 11:33 a.m. a caller reported a dog had fallen through the ice into the Wisconsin River at the County Rd E bridge in the Town of Rock Falls. Other callers reported that as the owner of the dog was attempting to rescue the dog in a duck boat he too had fallen through the ice. As a deputy and the Merrill Fire Department went to the scene a call came in that both the dog and its owner were safe and back on dry land. A deputy checked the area and insured all parties were accounted for.

Two people reported striking deer this past week. On Tuesday a woman from West Salem, WI reported striking what she thought was a bob cat on US Hwy 51 near State Rd 64. The animal was not found but her 2011 Chevy Cruise had to be towed.
