Gladys E. Oberg

Gladys E. Oberg, 98, of Merrill, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
She was born June 6, 1914 in Merrill to the late Scott & Blanche (Norton) Thompson. On Aug. 27, 1932 she married Ernest Oberg in Merrill. He preceded her in death June 20, 1988.
Gladys spent her married life as a homemaker and had worked at the Merrill Pea Cannery and Merrill Woolen Mills over the years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she helped with the church bulletins. Gladys was also a member of the 5th Ward Circle. She loved to do arts and crafts and sewing. Gladys baby-sat for all her grandchildren through the years and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her two daughters: Nancy (Jerry) Kunkel, Merrill and Sharon (Jim) Garski, Tomahawk; two sons: Gay (Sally) Oberg & David (Gayle) Oberg, all of Merrill; 22 grandchildren: Ruthie, Randy, Ricky, Ernestine, Scott, Lynn, Sherry, Darrell, Steve, Tammy, Dawn, Sandy, Thom, Terry, Laurie, Kim, Nicki, Heidi, Chris, Jimmy, Chad & Jamie; 36 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Violet Mixis, Rhinelander, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 55 years, Ernest; three sons: Jerry, Richard & Ronald Oberg; one infant daughter: Bonnie Oberg; one grandson: Christopher Garski; two brothers: Charlie Thompson & Jack O’Brion; two step-brothers: Bob O’Brion & Richard O’Brion; one step-sister: Joyce O’Brion.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10-11 a.m. before the service at the church. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. The family requests memorials be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
