Roets named Youth Optimist of the Month

The Merrill Noon Optimist Club has chosen Steven Roets, who was nominated by Mr. Greg Eichelkraut, as Youth of the Month for the month of December. Mr. Eichelkraut states that, “Steven brings to any organization a positive, can-do attitude that is selfless.” He also commented that, “Steven played a key role in the Fill-a-Backpack project; he helped to move materials around, stuff and distribute the backpacks. He worked hard and had a great attitude that helped make the job pleasant.” Mr. Eichelkraut also said that, “Steven doesn’t back down from the hard jobs – while performing those jobs Steven’s attitude helps make the time fly faster.”
Steven currently holds a GPA of 4.0 and a class rank of 1. Some of the classes that Steven has taken include Honors Biology, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, AP Language & Comp, AP US Government, AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Psychology, AP Human Geography and AP Literature & Comp. He has received highest honors every semester, lettered in Academics after his freshman year and was selected for 2012 Badger Boys State.
Some of the many activities that Steven has been involved in consist of Vice President of Student Council, Student Senate, Section leader of Marching Band, Honors Art Workshop, Earth Club and National Honor Society.
When not in school, Steven participates in Lincoln County 4H, River District Development Foundation of Merrill – Student Representative, Lincoln County Fair and Youth Group.
After completing high school, Steven plans to attend a four year school to get his Masters/PhD for Urban Planning. He is the son of Steven and Cheryl Roets.
