THS swimmers wash over Raiders

The Tomahawk boys lapped Medford in Thursday’s home meet, taking down an 86-62 dual.
“It was an awesome meet for the Hatchet swimmers!” THS coach Marion Kohl said. “It was our final home meet of the season, and so it was Parents’ Night and Seniors’ Night. Confidence was running pretty high with having so many folks in the stand to watch and cheer.
“The seven swimmer Medford team did not have any entries in the 100 butterfly event, so we decided to forgo that event as well. So a couple of our swimmers tried events that they hadn’t yet done this season – and very successfully I might add.”
The Hatchet boys went 1-2 in the 50 free and 100 free with junior Aaron Becker (:27.01, 1:06.42) and freshman P.J. Ehn (:29.19, 1:11.82), and the 200 free relay with Logan Loretz, Becker, Ehn, Vic Ierulli (1:48.71) and Kameron Knipfer, Mesha Hacinovic, Alex Kuehn, Chad O’Brien (2:04.48).
The freshman Loretz handily won the 200 IM (2:38.36), as did the 200 medley group (Ierulli, Knipfer, Loretz, Becker) in 2:06.53.
The Hatchets ranked 2-3 in the 100 back with Josh Phillips (1:20.89) and Ben Yirsa (1:26.30), and in the 100 brea with Loretz (1:18.74) and Knipfer (1:21.12).
The 400 free squad of Wyatt Schumitsch, O’Brien, Ierulli and Yirsa was also a runner-up (4:41.75).
Also ranking third were: Yirsa (200 IM, 3:07.99); Kuehn (500 free, 7:32.30); and the 200 medley team (Phillips, Schumitsch, Harcinovic, Ehn (2:21.03).
