With the constant changes in the local weather the DNR and the Rec. Deputy are warning winter sports enthusiasts about thin ice. On Wednesday an ATV and an ice shack broke through the ice on Lake Alice near the South Birch boat landing. The DNR made a visit to the site and was advised the owner was working with a tow company to get the items removed from the estimated seven feet of water on Thursday.
A 31 year old Tomahawk man was arrested early Friday morning on a misdemeanor drug charge after a traffic stop. A deputy stopped Jasper D. Hartwig on US Hwy 51 near County Rd J for speeding just after 2 a.m. When the deputy approached the vehicle to speak to Hartwig he noticed a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana sitting in the center console. Hartwig was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was booked on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and was cited for speeding. He was released after posting cash bond.
A 34 year old Merrill man is in the Lincoln County Jail after being taken into custody Friday for multiple counts of bail jumping. Deputies investigated and learned that Daniel J. Catlin violated a no contact provision on three separate bonds – six times. Catlin was taken into custody by the deputy assigned to Court House security after he made a court appearance Friday morning. He will have another bond hearing on Monday for 18 counts of bail jumping.
A 26 year old Merrill man is in the Lincoln County Jail after a DNR Warden found him hunting after hours Friday night in the Town of Merrill. The warden saw a truck parked on Timber Lane and suspected the occupant was out hunting. Just before 5 p.m. the Warden found Dustin Carl Elsholtz bow hunting after dark. Elsholtz admitted driving to that location on a revoked driver’s license. Elsholtz was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where a deputy cited him for a fifth offense of operating a motor vehicle while revoked. He was also charged with a felony count of bail jumping for violating terms of a bond in Shawano County where he is charged with burglary. He was also held on a probation hold.
A 22 year old Merrill man is in the Lincoln County Jail for violating terms of his probation. Deputies responded to a tavern in the Town of Merrill late Saturday night after receiving a tip that Andrew Jay Burrows was in there drinking. Burrows was located in the establishment and provided a breath sample which showed he had been drinking. He was brought to the Jail and held.
A Lincoln County deputy was injured after a one vehicle crash Sunday morning in the Town of Birch. At 9 a.m. Peter A. Annis was operating a marked patrol vehicle on Copper Lake Ave near Loop Rd when his Jeep Cherokee slid on slush while rounding a curve. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled into the ditch. Annis was transported by squad car to Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center where he was treated and released. The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the crash report.
The number of car deer crashes is down again with six being reported this past week.
