The Rhinelander swim team nipped the Hatchet boys 84-75 in Thursday’s dual, but THS got its revenge in Saturday’s 10-team Hodag Invite with a 40-37 edge for the basement.
“The Hodags and the Hatchets are pretty evenly matched with regards to team size and talent, so without a couple of unfortunate disqualifications, we would have had them,” THS coach Marion Kohl said. “It was a great meet.”
The Hatchets picked up dual wins in the 200 medley relay (Vic Ierulli, Kameron Knipfer, Logan Loretz, Aaron Becker, 2:08.98) and the 100 fly (Loretz, 1:12.85).
They placed 2-3-4 in the 200 free (Paul Schneiderwent, 2:39.11, Josh Phillips, 2:40.93, Alex Kuehn, 2:43.04) and the 100 free (PJ Ehn, 1:12.53, Kuehn, 1:13.60, Ben Yirsa, 1:16.27). Other runner-up finishes came from: Ierulli (200 IM, 2:58.54); Mesha Harcinovic (50 free, :30.08); Phipllips (100 back, 1:22.41); Loretz (100 brea, 1:19.70); the 200 free team (Loretz, Phillips, Yirsa, Ierulli, 1:53.99); and the 400 free team (Harcinovic, Phillips, Schneiderwent, Becker, 4:38.89).
Hodag Relays
THS had three 6ths and six 7ths in Saturday’s meet.
“This meet gives us a great deal of seed times to use for later meets, as well as allowing the swimmers to work together as a team because every one of the 10 events is a relay,” Kohl said. “Only we and the 1st place Green Bay United team were able to get through the meet without any DQ’s. We were only 5 points behind the Shawano Hawks to whom we lost by a sizeable margin only a week before.”
Sixths came from: the 200 free (Schneiderwent, Kuehn, Ehn, Phillips, 2:00.69); the 150 mixer (Loretz, Yirsa, Becker, 1:41.45); and the 300 brea (Kameron Knipfer, Ierulli, Loretz, 4:17.46).
