David Goetsch

David Goetsch, 72, of Deerfield, IL died December 6, 2012 at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, IL.

David was born in Merrill, WI to John and Ada (Natzke) Goetsch on March 19, 1940. He attended St. John’s Lutheran grade school and graduated from Merrill High School in 1958. Following high school he attended UW Stevens Point, graduating in 1964. David joined the National Guard while in college and was called up for active duty in 1961.
David earned his master’s degree in American History at UW Milwaukee and began teaching history in 1968 at Highland Park High School in Highland Park Illinois. He continued to teach there until his retirement in 1994.
David’s interest in history led him to the former Soviet Union where he met his wife Clara (Golubyatnakova). They were married in Moscow in 1980 and continued to travel back to Russia for several years after their wedding.
David had a life long interest in baseball, animals, and Studebakers as well as other classic cars. He was a member of Faith Lutheran church in Lake Forest, IL, the American Legion, the Studebaker Drivers Club, the Merrill Historical Society, and the Pomeranian Club.
He is survived by his wife Clara, brother John “Jack” (Joyce) Goetsch, Green Bay, WI and many other loving friends and family. David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Steve Goetsch.
Funeral services will be 11AM on Friday, December 14th at St John’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. Visitation will take place from 9AM until the time of service at the church. Reverend Nathan Kramer will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Merrill Memorial Park. Online condolences can be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
