The Tomahawk wrestling team had several questions and few answers before Saturday’s Oconto Invite, but the early-season muddy waters cleared slightly with a championship run. All 15 entries ranked in the top four.
“It’s not bad,” THS coach Bob Garrou said. “We’ll definitely take it. My seniors pretty much wrestled really well. Adam FauFau beat a kid that was fourth at sectionals, so now he knows he can do it.
“Our freshmen really helped out a lot. Kaleb Kaminski stepped in for Peter Pintens-who had a concussion-and (Kaleb) won it. We’re going to have a few wars and those freshmen aren’t going to wait their turn.
“This week, Wabeno is a 16-team meet and Coleman will be there, so we’ll find out a lot more about our kids.”
Seniors Kevin Zurfluh (113), Austin Bellile (195) and FauFau (220) all won their classes, as did sophomore Austin Story (120) and the freshman Kaminski (160).
Runner-up ratings were secured by soph. Nate Flohr (126) and srs. Turner Wegener (132) and Mitchell Schauer (285). Thirds came from jr. Hunter Vian (145), frosh. Dane Borchardt (170) and soph. Tony Johnson (220). Ranking fourth were: soph. Cullen Wegener (106), sr. Ryan Kuehn (138), soph. Slade Erdman (152) and jr. Henry Helland (182).
