A 28 year old Tomahawk man is in the Lincoln County Jail after a crash in the Town of Bradley Tuesday afternoon. Just after 3 p.m. the Lincoln County recreation deputy was riding with a DNR warden working on a joint investigation when a vehicle being driven by Joshua A. Boyd passed them at a high rate of speed in a no passing zone as they were leaving the city of Tomahawk on County Rd CC. The Warden activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle but before they could gain speed on the Boyd vehicle – estimated to be traveling in excess of 90 MPH – Boyd rear-ended a vehicle being driven by a 78 year old Tomahawk woman at a high rate of speed. The victim was treated at the scene by Tomahawk EMS with assistance from the Tomahawk Fire Department; but she refused medical transport.
Following the crash Boyd jumped from his vehicle and ran off into the woods at the intersection of Jones Rd and County Rd CC. Deputies, along with troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol, and Tomahawk police officers formed a perimeter in the area. A K9 unit from the Rhinelander Police Department came to the scene and conducted a ground search. Units searched on the ground for several hours but the K9 unit lost the trail during the deteriorating weather conditions.
Law enforcement continued to work the area and make contact with residents in the search area. Around 6:30 p.m. residents on Peaceful Valley Rd told deputies a person matching the description of Boyd was in the area. A perimeter was again formed and Boyd was eventually spotted running on Bay Mill Rd. Just before 8 p.m. Boyd was spotted running down the railroad tracks at the Jersey Lane trestle. Once he crossed the trestle Boyd was apprehended by waiting officers from the Tomahawk Police Department and Lincoln County deputies.
Boyd was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of reckless driving causing injury (felony), hit and run causing injury (felony), resisting arrest (misdemeanor), sixth offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (felony), trespassing on railroad property (misdemeanor), and an eight offense of operating a motor vehicle while revoked (misdemeanor). He will have a bond hearing on Wednesday in Lincoln County Court.
