Dorothy Ann Johnson, 96, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Bell Tower Residence surrounded by her family. Dorothy was in the loving care of both the Bell Tower staff and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice.
She was born February 20, 1916 in Merrill to the late Andrew & Ethel (Stimers) Alft. On May 7, 1943 Dorothy and Kenneth Johnson were united in marriage in Merrill. He preceded her in death October 21, 1981.
Dorothy was a 1934 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. She then worked in the office at Hanson Glove for a period of time before moving to Wyoming to be near her husband, Kenneth, who was stationed there in the Army during WWII. After he was deployed, Dorothy moved back to Merrill. After the war, she became a full time mother and home maker. Dorothy was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Mission Guild. She also volunteered for the food pantry and was a member of the “Kindergarten Club”, a group of women who went to kindergarten together and have stayed friends all these years.
Survivors include her son: Kent (Sue) Johnson, grand daughter: Nicole Johnson, all of Merrill, one niece and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth, and daughter, Linda Johnson.
Services will be held 3 PM Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Holy Cross Chapel in Bell Tower Residence. The Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Friends may call from 1 PM until the time of service. Memorials may be given to either Bell Tower Residence Huss Fund, Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice or to T.B. Scott Free Library Large Print Fund.
