Brokaw Development LLC announces that it has acquired the property and assets of the former Wausau Paper manufacturing site in Brokaw.
Eric J. Spirtas, principle of newly founded Brokaw Development LLC, and president of Niagara
Worldwide LLC, based in Niagara, WI, commented, “We see this investment as a great opportunity for the town of Brokaw, the neighboring villages and cities, as well as Brokaw Development and Niagara. We’ve established Brokaw Development as the entity that will manage site redevelopment.
Although the mill will not be restarted to make paper, we are confident, based on the experience of Niagara Worldwide, area study and our ability to locate users, site re-use is imminent.”
Jeff Weisenberger, Village of Brokaw President says, “We’re hopeful for a new start, fresh beginning and believe Eric Spirtas and his Niagara Development team can get this done.”
The future of the site re-creation has started to take shape, sources say.
Dave Eckmann, Economic Development Director of the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce economic development arm MCDEVCO, stated, “We are excited to work with the new owners of this key commercial site. Based on our early looks at their plan to repurpose and redevelop the site, their efforts will provide Brokaw with a fresh start and maintain the villages’ long standing role as an important economic asset in the central Wisconsin region. MCDEVCO stands ready to provide help and the necessary support to redevelop the community, create new industry and jobs.”
Ron Yunk, Industrial Project Superintendent for Miron Construction Co., Inc. of Wausau has worked in and around the Brokaw site for years. “Even with our other regional offices nearby, Miron has reached out to Brokaw Development to secure a site presence,” said Yunk. “We want to be in a priority position as new opportunities present themselves. We see that the Brokaw property will have need for crews, equipment and new construction services in the near future.”
The development companies and management firm of Niagara Worldwide look for input from the community through its open communication policy. “The ideas and desires of local business people, regional real estate professionals and neighboring communities often shed light on pent up demand and probable uses that may have been on the drawing board for years,” commented real estate development professional, Phil Dunn of Niagara Worldwide.
