Sheriff warns of transient merchants

Lincoln County Sheriff Jeff Jaeger is warning residents to be aware of transient merchants who are currently traveling in Lincoln County offering to perform low cost home improvements.
Over the last several days several residents of Lincoln County have contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report they were approached by an out of state contractor who offered to provide left over black top from a neighboring work site at a reduced rate. After the work was completed the residents have found both the work and product are substandard and the verbal quote on cost was considerably lower than the actual cost at the end of the job.
Sheriff Jaeger always directs people looking for work around their homes to rely on local contractors who are established with organizations such as the chamber of commerce, and have local references as to the quality of their work. Further, any legitimate contractor will provide you with a written estimate prior to the work being started.
If anyone shows up at your door offering goods or services at prices so low it sounds too good to be true, it is.
