On Cheung Szeto, loving father of Rev. David Szeto, died in his sleep while visiting on Friday, April 20, 2012. He was 74.
Born on Dec. 11, 1937 in China, he worked as a civilian employee for the British army in Hong Kong until he married Shirley Yung on Oct. 31, 1965. He immigrated to the United States in 1967 with his wife, Shirley, and their oldest child, Cissy.
Once in the US, he and the family lived in New York City where he worked as a waiter and eventually owned a restaurant for a short period of time. He enjoyed sightseeing with visiting relatives, and was able to get anywhere in New York City via subway without a map. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, sketching, and cooking.
On Cheung is survived by his wife Shirley; his children, Cissy, Edward and David; his grandchildren, Victoria, Karena, Lydia, Joanna and Samuel; and his mother, Pui Sheung, who lives in Australia. He is also remembered by many uncles, aunts, and cousins scattered throughout the world including San Francisco, Chicago, Australia and Hong Kong. He will be missed by them all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fouen; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and his brother-in-law, Alan Yung.
A memorial service was held April 28 in New York City with friends and family.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or American Heart Association.
The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.taylorstinefuneralhome.com.
