Valerie L. (Kohls) Currier, July 11, 1917 – March 13, 2012.
Throughout her life, Valerie was surrounded by people who were dear to her. She married her best friend and helpmate, LeRoy Kohls, on May 20, 1937. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1988. They raised seven children together.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Louise) Kohls, Waterford, WI, John (Sue) Kohls, Oak Creek, WI, and Joseph Kohls, Merrill, WI; one daughter, Marylee (Monte) Smith, Merrill, WI; two daughters-in-law, Bonnie Kohls and Sandi Kohls; 17 grandchildren, Debby (Pat), Steve, Lisa (Scott), Jean (Jon), Tracey (Erich), Jill (Tom), Todd, Shane (Vicki), Christina (Guy), Renea (Peter), Annette (Jeff), Michelle (Justin), Nathan (Arika), Matthew (Marcy), Nicole (Joshua), and Rachel (Seng); 17 great-grandchildren and two on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie and Patricia (Harry); and one brother in law, Frank. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Irene (Paradise) Filz; three sons, James, William, and Robert Kohls; one granddaughter, Melanie; two sisters, Chadyeane and Donna; one brother, George; and one brother in law, Ken.
Valerie died peacefully surrounded by the loving caregivers at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, who treated her like family during her years there. Valerie was a woman of faith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, who leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family. She grew up in Antigo working at her father’s bakery. She graduated from Antigo High School, and passed up career opportunities to fulfill her life as a wife and mother. Her life was all about serving others. She loved cooking and baking, and one of her favorite items to bake was homemade sweet rolls every Saturday morning. Valerie served for many years on the Woman’s Aglow Fellowship. She loved to dance and sing. After raising her family, she and her husband LeRoy retired to Florida. Valerie made friends wherever she went. Valerie will be forever missed.

A celebration of Valerie’s life was held at noon on Saturday, March 17, at the Oak Creek Assembly of God Church, Oak Creek, WI.
There will be a time of remembrance for Valerie at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Pine Crest Nursing Home Chapel, Merrill.
