Edgar F. Plamann, age 89, was called to his Heavenly home surrounded by loved ones on February 2, 2012 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Edgar was born on January 6, 1923 at home in the Town of Schley. He was the son of the late Frank and Hattie (Ahlert) Plamann. He married Lorraine (Loesel) on September 11, 1943.
Edgar was born on the Frank and Plamann homestead. After his father passed, Edgar at the age of 17, his sister, and mother farmed alone until Edgar married. He was the oldest living farmer in the Town of Schley that was born and stayed on the same farm until going to the nursing home in June 2011.
Edgar was the church treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church “Dutch Corners” and treasurer of Sunrise School, Town of Schley in the early 1950’s. After the closing of the small county church, Edgar and Lorraine joined St. Stephens Church, Merrill.
He enjoyed working with wood as many beautiful pieces of furniture, among other items, were created in his wood shop at his home. His love of wood working was a great part of his spare time. Edgar also enjoyed playing his saxophone with neighborhood musicians.
Outside of farming, Edgar worked at Leonard Builders of Merrill. Edgar and Lorraine retired from farming in 1990. Over the years they traveled to Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Canada, and Mexico. He was a member of the church dart ball league, the Mosser slow-pitch team, and the Tree-Dodgers and the L&L Snowmobile Clubs. He enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Braves-Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, loving the unforgettable times he shared with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, of 68 years in the Town of Schley; one daughter, Shirley (Roger A.) Yonke, of Merrill; two sons, Duane Plamann, of Merrill, and Roger Plamann, of Wausau; seven grandchildren, Christy (Larry) Langbecker, of Merrill, Kimberly Hoffman, of Cambridge, John Ollhoff, of Merrill, David Yonke, of Merrill, Daniel (Christie) Yonke, of Wausau, Andrew Plamann, of Merrill, and Renee (Rob) Koebe, of Merrill. Edgar is further survived by thirteen great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; and his sister, Edna Podeweltz, of Merrill. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hattie Plamann; his daughter, Bonnie; and his daughter-in-law, Mary (Duane) Plamann.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 6, 2012, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Jack Kraaz will officiate. Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery “Dutch Coroners”, Town of Schley, Lincoln County. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, and after 9:30 A.M. Monday, all at the funeral home.
