Donald W. Grund, age 80, of Merrill, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Donald was born January 22, 1931, in Merrill, son of the late Walter and Cecelia (Geiss) Grund. He married Sandra (Zimmerman) Fellbaum on April 28, 1984. She survives. Don served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1954. He served in Germany during peacetime after the Korean War. Don was a dairy farmer in the Town of Pine River, Lincoln County. He also hauled cattle. Don was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill, and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the board of F.H.A. Don was a member of the Snow Campers. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, playing cards and going to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Grund, of Merrill; one daughter, Susan (husband, Ole) Schneider, of Merrill; four sons, Scott (friend, Jaci Dehnel) Grund, of Athens, Tom (wife, Tess) Grund, of Merrill, Steve Grund, of Merrill, and David Grund, of Merrill; one step daughter, Carrie Grenfell, of Merrill; one step son, James Fellbaum, of Wausau; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Brett) Oren, Brett Schneider, Heather ( Dave ‘Beaver’) Plautz, Morgan (Chuck) Matthiae, Adam Grund, Chelsea Grund, and Jake Grund; three step grandchildren, Derek (Gina) Grenfell, Amber-Lynn Grenfell, and Jared Fellbaum; eight great-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter; and one sister, Shirley (Ronald) Schneider, of Merrill. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cecelia Grund; and one sister, Marion Ament.
The funeral liturgy will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Father Michael McLain will preside. The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
