Mary J. ?Kitty? Schumitsch

Mary J. “Kitty” Schumitsch died at her home in the Town of Pine River on Mon. Sept. 19, 2011 at the age of 66.
She was born May 10, 1945 in Antigo to the late Andy L. “Todd” and Leone (Jenkins) Sheldon. She married Richard “Dick” Schumitsch on July 31, 1965 in Antigo. He survives.
Mrs. Schumitsch graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1962, and she attended St. Olaf College. She later settled in Merrill with her husband, where they raised their family.
She worked as a homemaker. She will be remembered as a caring and generous woman. She spent her time doing charity and volunteer work, including work with hospice, Hope Pregnancy Center, and Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was also a skilled quilter.
Mrs. Schumitsch belonged to the Highland Community Church in Wausau.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Laurie (Doug) Jensen of Merrill; 2 sons, David (Meredith) Schumitsch of Merrill, and Matthew (Dawn) of Tomahawk; 2 brothers, William (Barbara) Sheldon of Antigo, and Mike (Cindy) Sheldon of Antigo; 9 grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle), Amanda, and Jacob Jensen, Cadie, Andrew, Wyatt, Emma, Mike, and Kate Schumitsch; mother in-law, Bernice Schumitsch of Antigo, sisters in-law, Nancy (Al) Wojtasiak, Karen (Buster) Knutson, Corinne (Michael) Wolter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and father in-law Bernard Schumitsch.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Highland Community Church in Wausau, with Rev. Jeffrey Hinds officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home in Antigo, and 10-11 Thursday at the church in Wausau. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials in Kitty’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s Hospital.
