Elsie M. Rehfeld, 91, of Merrill, died Friday, September 9, 2011, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.
Elsie was born February 14, 1920, in Lincoln County, daughter of the late Clara Oldenburg. She married John F. Rehfeld on December 18, 1936. He preceded her in death in April of 1972. Elsie was a homemaker. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill; was a charter member of the St. John’s Mother’s Club; and was also a member of the Ladies Aid of the church. Elsie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Social Club. She delivered “Meals on Wheels” for over 20 years throughout the Merrill community. Elsie enjoyed bowling; dancing; playing cards; caring for other people; and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Malinda (Ronald) Burrow, Rita (friend, Dean Boyd) Hartwig, and Debra (friend, Pete Boquist) Rehfeld, all of Merrill; five grandchildren, Diana (Jerry) Petruzates, Dawn (Bill) Folta, Denise (Jim) Humphrey, Gregory (Betty) Hartwig, and Russell (Dawn) Hartwig, all of Merrill; seven great grandchildren, Mark and Brian Folta, Logan, Sierra, and Alicia Humphrey, Rebecca Rutowski, and Katherine Hartwig; two step great grandchildren, Jackie and Jesse Suwyn; and two step great great grandchildren, Madeline and Kaleb. Elsie is preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy; one son, John S. “Jack” Rehfeld; a son in law, David Hartwig; and a grandson, David Burrow.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 12, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:30 A.M. Monday at the church.
