Lucille Walters-Bronsteatter, age 89, of Merrill, died peacefully under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice, Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living Facility in Merrill.

She was born May 18, 1922, in Merrill, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne (Radar) Fischer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Tom “Skip” Walters and her second husband Edward Bronsteatter.
Lucy and Tom “Skipper” Walters were owners of Skipper’s Restaurant, 812 E. Main St., Merrill, opened in 1937 and served home cooking for 42 years. Their Friday fish fry, intimate, friendly atmosphere and great food often left standing room only. Lucy enjoyed nature, gardening, card games, dancing, cooking, and had a special talent for interior decorating.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Liz Hinshaw) of California, Pauline (Fred) Berndt of Ohio and Sharyn (Mark) Long of Minnesota. 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Loretta Toschner of Merrill and Rose Plano of Wausau.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home. A Memorial Prayer Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM, with the Fr. Dan Crosby officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Merrill Humane Society.
