MHS blanks THS

The Hatchet softball team had handed GNC champ Mosinee its only loss in regular-season play and stuck within four runs in the other game of an early-May doubleheader.
But in last Tuesday’s regional semi-final game, Mosinee pulled out a 10-0 triumph.
“This night belonged to Mosinee,” THS coach John Larson said. “Bottom line was that Mosinee hit the ball very well and the Hatchets did not. It was a game where we just got beat by a better team.”
Mosinee jumped out with 5 runs in the first inning and made it 6-0 by the 2nd. The hosts tacked on 4 more in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to end it early.
The Hatchets were held to a single hit-a first-inning double by Kendall Nelson-by unanimous First Team pitcher Samantha Thompson. Thompson finished with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Mallory Christianson (10 H, 2 W, 2 K, 9 ER in 3-1/3 I) took the loss and Kaitlin Doughty (3 H, 1 W, 3 K, 1 ER in 1 I ) relieved.
The Hatchets closed out a 10-12 season that included a 6-6 fourth-place GNC mark.
“Overall it was a good season,” Larson said. “The Hatchets played very well at times, and at other times a piece of the puzzle was missing.
“The Hatchets played as a team, played with enthusiasm and gave it their best effort each day in practices and games. It was a fun year. The girls were a great group to coach.”
