THS out-soars Eagles

The Hatchet boys built 3-1 and 6-3 leads against Northland Pines last Tuesday, but the Eagles made it exciting by pulling into an 8-7 lead after the top of the 7th inning. Tomahawk pulled out the 9-8 triumph with two in the bottom of the 7th with just one out.
“We’re starting to get momentum with our bats, but we need to pick it up defensively,” THS coach Bill Turgeon said.
Seth Wescott hit a solo homer in the 6th to break a 6-6 tie. Tomahawk finished with 13 hits, boosted by Steffan Unger (3-3, 2 R), Dylan Brietzke (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Wescott (2-4, HR, 2 R) and Tyler Jones (1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI). Every batter hit at least once.
Jones (2 W, 1 K, 1 ER in 1 I), Wescott (3 H, 5 W, 4 K, 5 ER in 4-2/3 I) and Kory Brietzke (3 H, 1 W, 1 K, 2 R, 1 ER in 1-1/3 I) shared pitching duties.
The 2-12 Hatchets (2-8 in the GNC) also lost a 5-0 game to the state’s 9th-ranked Rhinelander Hodags (17-1, 9-0) on Thursday. No other details were available.
