Jays throw it out

Three members of the Bluejay boys track team took a sneak look at the level of competition they will face if they qualify for state, and they found out they are up to snuff.
Merrill placed fifth of 18 teams in last Tuesday’s Homestead Field Festival, highlighted by Sam Arneson’s win in the discus at 172′ 3″. The Jays scored 30 points.
“It was all the best throwers in the state and an awesome meet to have athletes in,” MHS coach Kurt VandenHeuvel said. “That is phenomenal to see three guys earn that many points especially when the competition is all the best guys in the state! I am very proud of the guys and look forward to them staying consistent in the meets to come.”
Arneson also placed 9th in the shot put at 51′ 2.25″, Nick Leskey ranked 16th with a throw of 47′ 1.25″ and Matt Haffemann was 33rd at 38′ 10.25″. In the discus, Leskey placed 19th (132’10”). Forty athletes competed in the meet.
