HAVEN donations get rolling with help from PCCU, members

Three stainless steel, rolling carts were donated to HAVEN Inc. with funds collected over the holidays at Park City Credit Union. The carts will be used to more easily move incoming donations, and other items as needed at the community shelter.

Through most of December, member/owners conducting their banking at the credit union, as well as employees, purchased paper stars for $1 each, or trees for $5 each to benefit HAVEN. The stars and trees decorated the Park City C.U. lobby through the holiday season. Once the funds were totaled, a need was identified within the price range.

“This was something we really needed,” said Judy Woller, Executive Director of HAVEN. “We have donations come in over the weekend that fill up the hall. Then we had to carry them, by hand, down to the donation room.”

HAVEN Volunteer Coordinator, Karen Jantz often collects donations right from the donor’s car or truck. “People can be so generous that sometimes it takes a long time to unload somebody’s vehicle,” she said. “The big one will also double as counter space,” Jantz added.

“Park City Credit Union believes strongly in contributing to the communities we do business in,” stated President/CEO, Val Mindak. “Over the holidays, each location contributed back to its respective community in some way. In Tomahawk and Minocqua, cash and supplies were collected for Humane Societies. Rhinelander contributed generously to Salvation Army, and at our Merrill location we helped HAVEN. It doesn’t stop with the holidays, either. Our Relay for Life team is already active, and February marks our annual participation in the ‘Share-a-Bear’ program for Children’s Miracle Network.”

HAVEN is the Household Abuse Victims Emergency Network. Some of the many services provided to families and friends affected by domestic violence and sexual assault include a 24-hour crisis line (715-536-1300), emergency transportation, a shelter home, victim advocacy, support groups and community education.

Park City Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative providing financial services to over 23,000 members who live or work in Lincoln, Oneida, Vilas, Iron, Price, Taylor, and Marathon Counties, as well as parts of Langlade County. Branches are located in Merrill, Tomahawk, Minocqua, and Rhinelander, as well as a student branch at the Merrill High School, and online at www.parkcitycu.org.
