Alfred Cordova

On Friday, January 7, 2011, under Ministry Hospice Care, Alfred Cordova took Jesus’ hand and went home to be with the Lord at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Julia and his family.
Alfred was happiest when he was with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was a real go-getter, never letting the grass grow under his feet. Alfred loved to work in his garage, building many things for his children and grandchildren. He built many stools, benches, picture boxes, wooden games, bird houses and feeders, and even some shelves for St. Mary’s Catholic School. He was known for his love of canning salsa and hot peppers. You were a lucky person if you received a jar! Among his favorite things to do were playing cards with family, putting up pictures of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all over his house, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow, talking about sporting events, and keeping up with the Green Bay Packers. He was also known for his wonderful pep talks encouraging all of his children throughout their lives and giving his most precious gifts to all; faith, love, and strength. He will be sadly missed by all!
Alfred was born February 22, 1931, the son of Louis and Adeline (Mahnke) Cordova. Alfred met Julia Ledvina on a blind date set up by some friends in Illinois. They were married April 21, 1951 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Illinois. Alfred and Julia spent most of their 59+ years of marriage raising their 13 children and working on their family farm. Alfred also owned and operated A&L Electric in the 1960s, and was a Master Electrician. He retired in 1992.
