Bonnie J. Van Slate, age 77, of Merrill, died Friday, December 10, 2010, at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
Bonnie was born November 17, 1933, in Merrill, daughter of the late Arthur and Ann (Kriewald) Zimmerman. She married Merlin “Mertz” Van Slate on August 6, 1955, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1986. Bonnie had been a sales clerk at the former Gruett’s and Schulze’s Pharmacy’s in Merrill, and had also worked at KFC in Merrill. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Steve and Kim Van Slate, Tomahawk; two sisters, Sandy (Mrs. Donald) Grund, Merrill, and Sharon Draxler, Marathon; two step grandsons, Brad (Mickie) Krueger and Bob Krueger, both of Merrill; one step grandchild, Marley; and her pet dog “Earl”. Bonnie is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Alan Zimmerman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. R. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Burial of Bonnie’s cremated remains will take place next spring in Merrill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday.
