Mae June Schneider

Mae June “June” Schneider, age 84, of Merrill, died Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.
Mae June was born May 20, 1926, in Merrill, daughter of the late Oscar and Leona (Behrens) Hertell. She married Joseph W. Schneider on November 30, 1946, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2005. June was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. She worked as a cook at various local establishments, including the former A&W Restaurant, the former St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, and Pine Crest Nursing Home. In 1978, June and her husband, Joe, managed a Road Star Inn in Rochester, Minnesota. In the early 1980’s, June and Joe moved to South Milwaukee and managed a senior citizen’s housing complex.
June was a Charter Member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary. She loved cooking for her family. June was a great cook, even perfecting a recipe for Ragout. Her sons were particularly fond of her banana bread. June enjoyed sight-seeing and traveling, attending Joe’s Army reunions, and the occasional casino trip with her friends. June also enjoyed working on puzzles and word puzzles, playing board games, and watching Green Bay Packer football games. June’s family will remember her as a fantastic Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma.
Survivors include one daughter, Jolene Schneider, of Merrill; five sons, Thomas (Georgine) Schneider, of Merrill, Dennis (Linda) Schneider, of Irma, Steve (Mary) Schneider, of Menomonee Falls, Jeff (Nancy) Schneider, of Merrill, and Robin (Cindy) Schneider, of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Bernd, Becky, Nicole, Jesse, and Nichole; five great-grandchildren, Mickenna, Evelyn, Irene, Nick, and Laura; and one brother-in-law, Lester Becker. Mae June was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; one son, Arthur; and two sisters, Mildred Becker and Lorraine H. Schmidt.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 6, 2010, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Hawker will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Francis Church Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 10:00 A.M. Monday at the church.
