George Fred Kleist

George Fred Kleist, 81, of Merrill, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born November 8, 1924 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Charles & Frances Venard. He married Beverly Pearl Dorothy Pophal June 20, 1998.
George drove truck for many years. He also worked as an auto technician for many years. George enjoyed dining out and talking with the coffee clutch. Some of his favorite things were John Deere tractors and Ford vehicles. George was a member of the Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed working on the house. George went to the Edgar Steam and Engine Show every year.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Kleist, Merrill; two sons: William (Tina) Kleist, Wausau, and George E. (Susan) Kleist, Rolling Meadows, IL; two daughters: Christine (Allen) Herman, Watertown, WI, and Marilyne Kleist, Newport, RI; step-daughter: Sandie (Randy) Martin, Merrill; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother: Delbert (Betty) Kleist; his special dog: Cindy Mae Kleist. He was preceded in death by his son Dale, sisters: Violet Abrahams, Mary Mussella and Florence Palmer and his first wife, Charlene.
Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2010 at Waid Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Entenman will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Harshaw, WI. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
