Erna D. Polak, age 93, formerly of the Town of Schley, died Thursday, November 25, 2010, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Erna was born April 2, 1917, in the Town of Schley, Lincoln County, daughter of the late Herman and Marie (Frick) Klein. She married Carl J. Polak on June 14, 1941, in the former Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Schley. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1996. Erna was a homemaker, and along with her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Schley. She also did seasonal work at the former Oconomowoc Canning Company in Merrill. Erna had been a member of the Ladies Aid at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Schley, and Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. She was also a member of the “Heller Homemaker’s Card Club”. Erna enjoyed quilting, sewing crafts for family members, and flower and vegetable gardening.
She is survived by two sons, David (Donna) Polak and Leonard (June) Polak, both of Merrill; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren. Erna is preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Polak; and 7 siblings, Elsie Kahn, Hilda and Alma Beyer, and Clara, Rose, George, and Walter Klein.
Erna’s funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. The Rev. Steven Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Luther Memorial Church Cemetery (Emanuel), Town of Schley. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Taylor – Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.
