George L. Wood, 88, Merrill, died Nov. 8, 2010 at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.
George was born June 18, 1922 to the late Leonard and Emma (Strezel) Wood, in Wausau. George married Ruth Miller on Jan. 14, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa. He and Ruth moved to Oshkosh, Wausau and then later to Merrill.
George served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII. He was an automotive machinist for an Automotive Supply Co. in Oshkosh. While in Oshkosh he served on with the Auxiliary Police for 35 years. He is a life member of the VFW, locally with the Post #388.
Survivors include his wife Ruth; his sons, Lyle (Cindy) Wood, Marathon City, David Wood, Anamosa, IA, and Mark Wood, Morristown, MN; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was held at the Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau. Deacon John Ramassini with St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church officiated. Burial was at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
In lieu of flowers memorials in George’s memory may be given to Ministry Wausau Kidney Center, 2600 Stewart Ave. Wausau, WI 54401.
