The county recreation deputy is investigating a forest fire that was potentially an act of arson.

Last Tuesday just before 5 pm a cell phone call to the 911 center reported a fire in the woods off of Big Hill Rd in the Town of Rock Falls. The recreation deputy was on the scene within minutes and found a fire in the woods which he was able to contain with his fire extinguisher told the deputy that he had come out to his feed pile at his deer stand and saw the flames. When he checked his stand he found where someone had set up fireworks under the stand causing the fire.
The recreation deputy suspects someone was trying to interfere with the hunting stand, which was set up with permission on land owned by the Father Menard Council of the Knights of Columbus.
If you have any information on this incident you are asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 715-536-6272 or 715-453-5747, or call Crime Stoppers of Lincoln County at 715-536-3726. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
