High winds caused numerous problems throughout the county on starting last Tuesday and kept area emergency personnel busy.

Just after 6 a.m. the first wind damage report was received in the Town of Scott, and in the next 36 hours a total of just over 100 reports of damage or hazardous conditions were reported. The main complaint was trees down across the roadway or trees knocking down power lines. Dispatchers at the sheriff’s office worked with dispatchers at Wisconsin Public Service along with the town chairperson’s and highway department getting roads cleared and power crews to needed areas.

At 10:45 a.m. Tomahawk Fire was again called out after a tree took down lines and started a fire on County Rd H north of County Rd D in the Town of King. Again firefighters and a deputy stood by for only a short time with the scene being turned over to Wisconsin Public Service.

At 2:30 p.m. Tomahawk firefighters were called out to Hillside Rd in the Town of Wilson after downed wires started a tree on fire. When firefighters arrived they found the fire was out. A Deputy stood by for some time for Wisconsin Public Service to arrive.

The Town of Corning Fire Department was called out just after 10 p.m. after trees brought down wires on Joe Snow Rd at Midway Rd. Firefighters stood by for over an hour waiting for WPS crews to arrive.??¢??????¯

At 11:30 p.m. the Tomahawk Fire Department was called out to Nokomis Driver after a tree fell over a wire and started sparking. Firefighters were on the scene for only a short time as the roadway was cleared.

Town of Russell firefighters were called out just after midnight after a tree fell on a wire and started a fire on County Rd C at Potato Lane in the Town of Schley. Firefighters stood by for about two hours for WPS crews to rectify the problem.

??¢??????¯At 12:23 a.m. Wednesday a deputy found a tree on fire near County Rd A and North Fourth Street at the city of Tomahawk and Town of Bradley limits. Firefighters were able to clear the scene quickly but a Deputy stood by for about two hours until WPS was able to control the situation. 10019675
