Ruth F. Weiss, age 89 of Merrill, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Wausau Aspirus Hospital.
She was born on July 29, 1921 in the Town of Maine to Walter and Erna (Schultz) Steckling. Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, Roland Weiss. They were married on May 30, 1942 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Maine. Ruth is further survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Suzanne Weiss, Middleton, WI, two granddaughters, Sarah (Douglas) Korzendorfer of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Rachel (Shannon) Gray of Rochester, MN, one grandson, Jonathan Weiss, Stevens Point, three great-grandchildren, Zackary and Nickolas Korzendorfer and Danielle Ruth Gray, a sister, Della Gay of Carabelle, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Ruth drew strength from her Christian faith and passed on a legacy of hard work and determination to “keep going,” no matter the circumstances. She possessed special talents for gardening and handiwork of all kinds, including knitting, crocheting and rug weaving. She and Roland enjoyed woodworking together. She worked outside the home at Luther’s Cheese Store for many years. Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Arlin and Leslie (Irene) Steckling.
Funeral service will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, October 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. R. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in the Town of Maine. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 10 AM until the time of service. If desired, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
