Renatus “Knute” J. Krause, age 89, of Merrill, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Woodland Court Elder Services, Merrill.
Knute was born Aug. 29, 1921, in the Town of Maine, son of the late Herman and Alvina (Voelker) Krause. He married Francis Schmidt on May 10, 1947. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 1974. He then married Eleanor (Braatz) Radloff on Aug. 28, 1987, at Faith Lutheran Church, Town of Maine. She survives.
Knute was a veteran of World War II. He served in the United States Army as a medical technician in the European Theatre. Knute worked at Anderson Bros. & Johnson as a stone polisher. He also designed and engraved stones. Knute was a member of V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Knute was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Town of Maine.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Krause; step children, Sharon Tewes, Sue (Tim) Lawrence, Tom (Patty) Radloff, and Laurie (Lloyd, Jr.) Buck; seven step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; sister, Hilma Krueger; and many nieces and nephews. Knute was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Kienbaum and Loretta Kluckman.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Faith Lutheran Church, Town of Maine. The Rev. Kevin Hoogland will officiate. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
