The North 4th Street Wisconsin River Bridge in Tomahawk closed Friday and is scheduled to remain closed for construction until August 2011. The closed stretch runs from River Street to Leather Avenue.
Crews will replace the 4th Street bridge, between River Street and Deer Park Road, over the Wisconsin River and reconstruct 4th Street between Deer Park Road and Leather Avenue.
The Wisconsin River Bridge and 4th Street between River Street and Deer Park Road closed to traffic beginning Oct. 1. Traffic is detoured via WIS 86, US 51, and Lincoln County A. Motorists on US 51, who want to get to Tomahawk businesses located north of the bridge, are advised to take the US 51/Lincoln County A exit. Motorists on US 51, who want to get to the downtown businesses located south of the bridge, are advised to take the US 51/WIS 86 exit.
A closing ceremony was held Friday morning before barricades were placed at both ends of the bridge. A “Burning The Bridge” party was held Saturday on the span featuring inflatable children’s attractions, hay rides through Bradley Park, pontoon boat rides, live music, food and beer served in a heated tent and a large bonfire into the early evening.
