Do lunch with a friend Saturday, Oct. 9 and walk away with some new interior design ideas to spruce up your home.

“New Beginnings – Color Your Life” is a luncheon and program offering tips on how to use colors in your home, window treatments and floor coverings. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Big Moose Supper Club, N8796 County Road S (CTH S exit), Tomahawk.

It’s sponsored by the Tomahawk Area Community Foundation as a way to increase awareness about that local organization and to build upon important “foundations” – our homes and our community. The other goals for the social get-together are simply to be informative and have fun.

The main presenter Oct. 9 will be Sharon Keppy, owner of Sharon Keppy Designs, a complete in-home decorating service. Sharon now lives in Tomahawk full-time after putting her talents to work in Iowa and Madison. While in Madison, Keppy worked with two builders, J.R. Stolz and Impala Homes. She did Madison’s Parade of Homes for both of them over an 18-year time span, and one of the last homes she worked on was featured on the Home & Garden Television series, “What You Get for the Money.”

Painting, redecorating, “even just moving artwork around can change your house,” Keppys says. “It doesn’t have to be a big expense to make a new look and change your life.”

Also part of the program is Mike Kaiser, Tomahawk Flooring & Decorating, who will discuss flooring and wall tile, and how color can be used in your home with those products.

Local decorative artist, Natalie Watland, Tomahawk, who does wall and ceiling accents, specializing in murals, is another presenter. You’ve seen her incredible work on the walls at Bootleggers Supper Club and Rodeo Saloon and Grill in Tomahawk and Jacobi’s in Hazelhurst, as just a few examples.

“Some people are afraid of design,” observes Dee Dreger, a member of the Tomahawk Area Community Foundation and the planning committee for the Oct. 9 event. “Design is fun. … We watch these programs on TV and never think we can do it here, but we can. … The craftsmanship we have locally is excellent and affordable and within our reach. … We’ve got local talent right here in the Northwoods.”

Tickets for the “Color Your Life” program and lunch are $25 and are available in Tomahawk at Park City Credit Union, Tomahawk Community Bank, Northbay Pharmacy, Nelson’s County Market, Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce and Tomahawk Leader or call 715-453-5935.

Plans are to offer two similar presentations in the future: “New Beginnings – Spice Up Your Life, ” focusing on kitchens and baths, and “New Beginnings – New Growth” on outdoor landscaping and living spaces.

Founded in 2002, the Tomahawk Area Community Foundation (TACF) is a non-profit, community-based organization created to help enrich life in the Tomahawk and surrounding area for present and future generations. TACF is a component fund of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, Wausau. For more information on the group, visit www.mytacf.com or contact Rejeana Ebert at 715-453-4390 or Dreger at 715-453-3335.
