Authorities seek driver who led them on brief high-speed chase

Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and Merrill Police officers are looking for the public’s help in finding the driver that led them on a short high speed chase late Thursday evening.
At about 11:15 p.m. a deputy was in his personal vehicle leaving work when he observed a newer silver in color passenger car, possibly a four door traveling north on County Road K in the Town of Scott south of Merrill. The vehicle was estimated to be traveling at 100 m.p.h. when it was first seen.
The deputy phoned in a description of the vehicle to the dispatch center and police and sheriff units went to the area to try and locate it. Minutes later two MPD units saw the vehicle traveling in excess of 50 m.p.h. on South Center Avenue near O’Day Street and activated their emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle continued north into the city but according to the pursuing officers the vehicle dramatically increased its speeds and almost crashed at the intersection of 10th Street and North Center Avenue. All units involved broke off from the chase in the interest of public safety as the vehicle continued north out of the city.
If you observed anything that evening or have any information on the driver of the vehicle please call the sheriff’s department at 715-536-6272 or call Crime Stoppers of Lincoln County at 715-536-3726. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and can qualify for a cash reward.
