County rec deputy makes OWI arrest

The county recreation deputy cited a 54-year old Merrill man for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Saturday night.

The recreation deputy first had contact with Joseph L. Ziesmer as he and a sober friend were fishing on a lake outside of Tomahawk. The recreation deputy warned Ziesmer to have his sober friend drive his vehicle back to Merrill when they were done on the water.

A few hours later the recreation deputy observed a vehicle towing a boat traveling through Merrill at a high rate of speed and stopped it, finding Ziesmer driving.

He was placed through field sobriety tests and taken into custody on the traffic charge. He was released to his sober passenger later Saturday night at the jail.
