42nd Annual Merrill Firefighters Charities Benefit Softball Tournament set for August 6-8

Family fun and playing ball support community

The Merrill Fire Department will host the 42nd Annual Merrill Firefighter’s Charities Allan Soward Memorial Co-ed Softball Tournament on August 6, 7, and 8 at Ott’s Park in Merrill.
Competition will be limited to 16 teams on a first come, first paid basis. Teams are currently being accepted, with the entry fee set at $100 per team. First game will start at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday night with the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
Since creating this charity in 2012, the Merrill Firefighters Charities, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has gifted close to $100,000 back to the community to help support individuals in a time of need and organizations working to improve and keep Merrill a great place to live and raise a family.
Concessions, including their famous nacho grande, will be available at family-friendly prices. The goal is to make this event one the entire family can be involved in and enjoy. Once again this year, there will be a large raffle and Smokey the Bear vs. Sparky the Fire Pup kids’ game on Sunday.
“This is the Merrill Fire Department’s 42nd year of hosting this tournament,” a press release from the Merrill Firefighters Charities said. “It wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of the Merrill community. Spanning over four decades and going strong, we hope to see everyone come play and/or cheer on their family, friends, and neighbors. While there, enjoy good food, cold drinks, and a great atmosphere, all while coming together for a worthy cause. The Merrill Firefighter’s Charities understands and appreciates that the donations, time, and attendance are all community based. With this said, we would like you all to know that the Charities places a strong emphasis on keeping the donations and relief we return local whenever possible. We again thank you and hope to see you there.”
