The 3rd Annual “Shed Some Light on Mental Health Walk” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Normal Park, Merrill; registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The purpose of the walk is to bring awareness to suicide and increase awareness on mental health issues. The walk is free of charge and is sponsored by Lincoln County Suicide Prevention Task Force.  
Walk registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Normal Park; preregistration is not required. The event will begin with a brief opening ceremony. After the completion of the two-mile walk, information booths by local agencies will be available. Five homes and Good Samaritan Chapel, Merrill
On Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. an intriguing mix of homes built over the last 100 years show vintage to contemporary construction, with adaptations for today’s lifestyles. The five tour homes are joined by the Ministry Good Samaritan Chapel.

Three homes is Antigo and two overlooking Bass Lake are featured in the 2014 Parade of Homes. Sponsored by the Langlade Hospital Auxiliary, proceeds from the event will support the purchase of a fetal ultrasound unit. Tickets are $8 and available at Lakeside Market, Schroeder's, Neve's Furniture and Swartzendruber's Supper Club in Antigo.

Pine River Fire Department, Merrill
The Pine River Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 10th annual pig roast and open house Saturday, Sept. 20, from 12:30-11 p.m. at the fire station on Range Line Road. The big raffle prize this year is a brand new Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV, valued at $6,400. Tickets are available in advance from any fire department member or at the event. Food, including roast pork sandwiches, will be served from 12:30-7 p.m. Tuck Pence will provide live music from 12:30-4:30 p.m. and America’s Party Band will take the stage from 7-11 p.m.

Plautz’s Pub, Merrill
On Saturday, Sept. 20, Plautz’s Pub will host a benefit for 6-year-old Madelyn Odegard, daughter of Josh and Heidi Odegard, granddaughter of Jim and Flori Jesperson and Bob and Lana Odegard. Maddy was recently diagnosed with Wilms Disease, a cancer of the kidneys. She is currently going through chemo as well as other treatments. Raffle tickets are available in advance for a $50 donation; first prize is $1,500. The benefit is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the drawing at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening. Tickets are available at Plautz’s Pub. For more information, contact Plautz’s Pub at 715-536-4611. There will also be a Zumba Benefit for Madelyn at the Merrill Fire Station at 11 a.m. that same Saturday. Cost is $5 per person with 10 and under being free. All proceeds will go to Madelyn.
