Ice Age Trail, Harrison Hills
The Northwoods Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance will be conducting their Annual Fall Colors Hike at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, in the beautiful rolling hardwoods of the Harrison Hills. The hike will be about 2 ½ miles. The public is invited. There is no charge, but free will offerings to the local chapter will be accepted. Hikers should meet at the ATV parking lot on Turtle Lake Road, ½ mile north of Cty. J. A shuttle will be offered from there to the start of the hike. Take Hwy. 51 to Cty. J at Irma, go east five miles, turn north on Turtle Lake Road. Or, from the east, take Hwy. 17 to Cty. J at Bloomville, go west on J to Turtle Lake Road, turn north and follow the Ice Age Trail event signs. For more information, contact Ruby Jaecks at or 715-443-3586 or 715-551-1118.

Smith Center, Merrill
The 7th Annual Lincoln Lager Barleyfest will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, from 2–6 p.m. at the Smith Center, Merrill. Craft brewers and vinters representing more than 40 brands will be offering samples at Barleyfest. The Merrill-Go-Round and BlueJay taxi will be available that day to make sure festers get home safely. Designated drivers get in free. Tickets may be purchased online at or at Dave's County Market, Merrill Chamber of Commerce, The Smith Center (MARC), The Beacon Bar or Ballyhoos Bar & Restaurant.

Board members of the Merrill Area Public Schools will be holding a listening sessions on Oct. 6  in the Merrill High School Library at 1201 N. Sales St. in Merrill from 7-8:30 p.m. The informal listening session will be open to all members of the community and will allow for questions to be answered and concerns addressed in a direct and open way. A complete schedule of board meetings can be found on the district’s website,
