Mark “Stubby” James Voigt

Mark “Stubby” James Voigt, age 65, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Aspirus Merrill Hospital.  He was born on April 16, 1959 to the late Earl and Marcella (Langbecker) Voigt in Merrill.  Mark attended and graduated from Merrill High School.  He met the love of his life, LeAnn Wendt, and the two were united in marriage on April 28, 1979, in Merrill.  She survives.

Mark very much enjoyed his job with the Merrill Area Public Schools as a custodian, which he did until he could no longer work. He loved being around the kids and helping them however he could.  Prior to that, he worked at Semling-Menke for a short time.  Mark was a skilled carpenter; and did all types of construction projects.  He had an incredible work ethic, and passed that trait along to his children. Mark was talented with woodworking projects as well, and made items such as planters and toy chests for family.  Mark enjoyed being outdoors, especially going deer hunting, and cooking on the grill.  He was an excellent cook and enjoyed making meals for family and friends.  Mark was an avid sports fan, watching all Wisconsin teams every chance he had!  He had a witty sense of humor and was caring and compassionate.  Mark was vibrant and full of life; he would light up a room and people truly enjoyed being around him.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill.  Mark will be missed dearly, but his light will shine through his family and friends.

Mark is survived by his wife: LeAnn Voigt of Merrill, son: Ryan (April) Voigt of Wausau, with their children, Hudson, Easton, Bridger and Brynlee, son: Adam (Ericka) Voigt of Merrill, with their children, Lainey, Braiden, Evan, Christian and Kallum, daughter: Megan Voigt of Merrill, with her children, Carson, Madelyn and Oliver, sisters: Marcia (Bruce) Plautz of Minnesota and Angela (Guy) Lepage of Merrill, brother: Shawn (Breigh) Voigt of Merrill, along with many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog: Sabrina.  He was preceded in death by his parents and Adam & Ericka’s infant son: Chase.

The memorial service for Mark will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill.  Rev. David Szeto will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10:00 a.m.  until the time of the service, also at the funeral home.
